MP3 to Text

Live

Turn an audio recording into a transcript you can edit and export.

Chrome

Open MP3 to Text ↗

A Chrome extension that transcribes MP3 and other audio files into text with punctuation and timestamps. Transcribe on your own computer or, faster and more accurately, in the cloud. Review and edit the transcript, then copy it or export it as TXT, Markdown or SRT subtitles — without leaving the browser.

What it does

  • Transcribe MP3 and other popular audio formats
  • Two engines — Transcript runs on your computer, Pro Transcript in the cloud
  • Punctuation and timestamps in the finished transcript
  • Automatic language detection for recordings in different languages
  • Long recordings — files up to 200 MB with Pro Transcript
  • Several files in one go — up to 15 at once with Pro
  • Edit, copy, or export as TXT, Markdown or SRT subtitles
  • Past transcripts kept in History

What it is for

Meetings, interviews, lectures, voice notes, podcasts and webinars — anything you would otherwise have to replay to find one name, number or quote. Reading and searching a transcript is faster than scrubbing through audio.

How it works

Open the extension, pick a recording and choose how to transcribe it:

  • Transcript runs entirely on your computer. The audio never leaves it. It is slower, and less accurate on difficult recordings.
  • Pro Transcript sends the recording to the cloud and comes back faster and more accurately, in any language it detects, on any computer.

The text comes back with punctuation and timestamps. Correct names and terminology in place, then copy the result or download it as a TXT file, Markdown, or SRT subtitles.

The extension converts speech into written text in the language it was spoken. It does not translate the finished transcript into another language.

Accuracy depends on the recording: background noise, microphone quality, accents, overlapping speakers and specialist vocabulary all affect it. Check important names, numbers and quotations before relying on them.

What is free and what is paid

Free, with no sign-up:

  • 300 minutes of Transcript, on your computer.
  • 120 minutes of Pro Transcript, to try the cloud engine.
  • Up to 5 files at once.

Pro — $12 a month or $99 a year:

  • 1,200 minutes of Pro Transcript every month.
  • Unlimited Transcript.
  • Up to 15 files at once.

Pro minutes renew each month, on the yearly plan too; minutes you do not use in a month do not carry over. When a month’s Pro minutes run out, Transcript keeps working with no limit until they renew.

How to subscribe

Install the extension from the Chrome Web Store and choose Upgrade in it — in Settings, or when a free allowance runs out. Payment opens in a new tab on Paddle, our reseller, and Pro switches on in the extension within a minute of paying. There is nothing to ship and nothing to download; your receipt and invoice arrive by email.

Pro belongs to the email address you paid with. In another browser, or after reinstalling the extension, open Settings and choose Already have Pro? Sign in: a one-time code goes to that address, and Pro switches on there too. There is no password. If the code does not arrive, email apps@beartools.dev with the order number from your receipt.

Billing and cancelling

Prices are in US dollars. In most countries — including the EU, the UK and Australia — tax is included in the price shown. In the US, Canada and a few other countries, sales tax is added at checkout, and the checkout shows it before you pay.

You can cancel at any time: in the extension, open Settings and choose Manage subscription, or follow the link in your receipt email — then cancel immediately or at the next billing date. Cancelling stops future charges and leaves Pro running to the end of the period you have already paid for. Your invoices and payment method live in the same place.

If Pro is not right for you, ask for a refund within 14 days of paying — the Refund and Cancellation Policy has the detail.
